Dear members of the International Women´s Club of Helsinki,
Spring has officially arrived. We passed the vernal equinox on March 20th and the clocks went back an hour on March 28th. I do not mind winter time or summer time, indeed I would prefer if we chose one standard time for the year.
During these times of uncertainty, positive news is needed. According to the World Happiness Report 2021: “In a Lamentable Year, Finland Again is the Happiest Country in the World”. This is the fourth time that Finland has ranked number one as the happiest country in the world. When this happened for the first time, Finns were delighted, but soon started to question the methods of the study and it´s truthfulness. The media pointed out negative matters of our society and our daily lives. Generally, people were doubtful whether Finland could have this status. However, now that Finland has received this ranking yet again, no critical voices were heard! Slowly but surely, Finns are getting used to being number one! Let´s be proud and do our best to keep that pole position in the future.

We are very happy that so many of you enjoyed the little sweet treat, which was the International Women´s Day greetings in the shape of a “Fazerin Sininen”. We were moved by the positive feedback, thank you.
Following on with the theme of Women´s Day we arranged an online morning coffee session with Professor Helena Ranta. She spoke about equality and women’s rights from the United Nation´s perspective, as well as the effects of Covid-19.
We want to continue to offer you at least some value for your membership fee. With that in mind the next meeting will be an online luncheon on April 13th at 11.30-13:00. Please mark this date and time in your diary. More information and a participation link will be sent to you soon!
The International Women´s Club of Helsinki AGM will take place on the 11th of May at 12:00. The meeting will be online. You will be able to join the meeting from 11:30 so that you will have some time to chat and see each other before the meeting starts. Also, if any of you are interested in membership of our board, please contact me at president@iwch.fi
We have some sad news to share. Merja Helaniemi and Renata Tuomisto, who have been Club members for a long time, have passed away. On behalf of the board, I would like to offer our sincerest condolences to the family and friends.
All the best dear ladies. Have a warm-hearted Easter!
